Please tell the group about your work in education
I am a lecturer in education at Moray House. Prior to taking up this post I taught in primary schools in Fife and North Carolina, USA. My work involves me doing a mix of teaching and research and where possible i try to ensure that the two weave together. I lead an ICT Option course for our 4th year BEd Primary students - during this block we explore, critique and experiment with a range of technologies - with a particular focus on digital media.
Some of my current research is looking at the use of the internet in learning and teaching.
I also work with Chartered Teachers on the MTeach programme at Moray House. I am particularly interested in teacher professional development and teachers as (action) researchers. This is the focus of my own doctoral study.
Briefly, in what ways do you presently use the internet in an education context?
Difficult question to answer briefly...
Designing and developing appropriate and valuable VLE for our Chartered Teacher programme - not quite cracked it yet but we're making progress.
I have also been using Ning for sometime and created a social networking site for the 4th year ICT Option group.

I should have added that Ning is also blocked, but access is given to those who ask e.g. if they're involved in an educational project that uses it - such as Voices of the World and edonis. It helps that I'm seconded as an ICT support officer and sit next to the man with the 'power' :-)
Hello Zoe,
Sorry about the delay in replying to your comment - I've had trouble signing in here (sorted now!) I mainly deal with online spaces. Courses on setting up class blogs, using free online tools, internet safety etc. etc. Social networks are blocked here too, but blogs are ok. We recommend edublogs.
