Please tell the group about your work in education
After 15 years in research & industry, I retrained as a Physics teacher through the University of Dundee's full-time distance learning PGCE course. Apart from 7 weeks on campus, the majority of the course was delivered via the Blackboard VLE system. I was already "into computers" (not my own words!) but this first experience of a VLE opened my eyes to the potential uses of ICT in education.
I am now in my 3rd year of teaching in the local secondary schooI.
This year, I have been fortunate to receive management backing for the introduction of a vocational course for senior pupils who require less academic options so I am taking a group of 14 boys through Intermediate 1 Applied Practical Electronics. Through running this course, I'm learning more about course development, classroom management, behaviour management and external moderation procedures.
Briefly, in what ways do you presently use the internet in an education context?
I run a classroom blog with my certificate classes. I use the site to provide information such as submission deadlines, full homework solutions, links to sites viewed in class, revision resources, etc.
I use youtube quite a lot to get suitable video material for starters or to provide examples of Physics outside the classroom. I'm always looking out for decent simulations and animations, such as java applets, that I can share with pupils to help explain concepts. Currently working on screencasting and iTunes to enable "pulling" of help with Physics whenever pupils want it outside the classroom.
Looking forward to getting my Glow account activated ;-)
What do you wish to get out of participating in edonis over the next 3 years?
I want to expand my knowledge of web2.0 utilities with a view to improving my effectiveness as Glow mentor and classroom teacher. Also hope to extend my professional learning network.
Finally, if applicable, please give the address of your own website. The link will be listed on the main edonis page

I've learned enough to know how little I know. No predictions but the involved individuals look as if they might have the necessary drive to generate 'something'.

Hi Sinclair. Wifi is still not connecting with my laptop. I'll put a job card in with our off-site IT consultant and phone Orange. Not sure what else I can do.
