Please tell the group about your work in education
I am a Senior Teaching Fellow and the Schools Liaison Officer for the School of Biology, University of St Andrews. Having been a teacher in Secondary Education, I put my experience to good use by providing a variety of schools outreach and teacher CPD activities. I have recently been awarded an AstraZeneca Science Teaching Trust grant for science innovation across the primary-secondary school transition phase and in support for Scotland's new Curriculum for Excellence. This project will develop news-style resources (e.g. podcasts) and discussion materials.
Briefly, in what ways do you presently use the internet in an education context?
Virtual learning environment (WEBCT); Pageflakes; blogs and social networking sites for student collaboration; critical analysis of evolving mechanisms for scientific communication; and email. (I get very frustrated with use of email as a default tool for group communication...)
What do you wish to get out of participating in edonis over the next 3 years?
Sharing of ideas and successes in the efficient effective use of the internet within education, particularly as a tool of collaboration across the traditional education phases (primary, secondary, further, higher and with work-based learning)
Finally, if applicable, please give the address of your own website. The link will be listed on the main edonis page
